Learning to be a
non-smoker is one of the very best gifts you can give yourself. I know first
hand, because I wasted years of my time, money and energy smoking cigarettes.
I wasted even more time and money trying to quit.
After more than a dozen failed attempts. And scores of
different books, programs and gimmicks. I thought I was destined to be a
smoker for the rest of my (shorter) life. Thank God, I was wrong!
In early 2001, I scribbled the words: "Quit Joking & Stop Smoking"
on a sheet of
paper. That may not seem like a big deal, but it started the
process that "changed" in my life. You see, I realized at that moment, looking at
that scribbled phrase, I had been fooling myself about
quitting.
Sure, I read a few
books, tried nicotine replacement therapy, tried hypnosis, and even tried
old-fashion
willpower. But everything I tried failed to stick.
I was hooked.
Then it hit me.
I had been looking for a "magic bullet". I wanted a
product or book to solve a problem that I owned. Instead, I should
have been looking inside myself to fix the problem I owned.
Think about it....
Is it reasonable to expect change to occur without your
involvement?
Is it reasonable to expect it to last if it
doesn't affect you on all three levels of P.I.E.?
I realized that
nothing could help me quit unless I was committed to helping myself.
Most products seem to miss the mark when it comes to smoking and quitting.
I began
my own
process of change that same day. This time, I began from the "inside out".
I wrote down each of the steps I took in my personal process to quit. And I recorded
the stages of
change in my journal. That's when I developed the acronym: I-V-E Q-U-I-T.
My undergraduate degree
is in psychology, and I earned my master's degree in business. When I
finished college years ago, I worked as a Family Intervention Counselor.
My job was to help families in crisis change their situation. But I've spent
the last eight years teaching businesses how to manage change within their
organizations.
Until I got
serious about quitting, I never realized just how valuable my professional
background would be in creating the I'VE QUIT Process.
As I began tracking and approaching my own quit
process using my new systematic approach an incredible change took place
inside myself.
I quit wanting to be a smoker. I quit thinking about smoking.
And
I quit feeling like a smoker. Finally, it was easy and rewarding to quit.
And I was excited about doing it.
I
developed a perfect process for "real change". And I'-V-E
Q-U-I-T smoking for LIFE!
In early 2003, I
started sharing my personal
journal with friends who wanted to quit. And I started working with
a group of MBA
students at the University of Missouri to research the validity of
the I'VE QUIT
process. The response was
phenomenal! Almost everyone who read my journal quit smoking and
felt great about the process.
As interest grew
among my friends and their friends, my journal led to this audio CD version of Quit Joking & Stop Smoking: The
I'VE QUIT Process! It's even better than the journal.
I hope you join our quiet revolution and become a
permanent non-smoker for
the rest of your life! You'll be glad you did.
